Conversion of measurements

When following recipes, one of the main difficulties is converting different measurement standards.  In Europe, most people use metric measurements (grams, litres, meters) which use kilograms and millilitres in the recipes.  In the United States, most people use imperial measures (pounds, pints, inches) and many recipes are measured in ounces or cups.

The story gets more complicated when you realise a standard English cup holds 6 ounces of flour and the American cup measure is 8 ounces of flour.  Mistakes in conversion can give poor results.
